A good mixture for me; some new words, some that had to be dragged out of the deeper recesses of my mind and a few easy entries to keep the grid fill ticking over at a satisfactory pace.

I was away last weekend but I made a tentative start. No Chambers, but internet access so I could check some of my guesses. I was able to finish it fairly quickly when I got home.
Couldn’t parse 10dn, thanks for the explanation. Monday morning, having checked out of my hotel, I was waiting in the foyer waiting for a taxi with a friend who also does crosswords. I thrust the magazine at him and asked “Why is that SPERMICIDE?” The other people in the foyer looked at us oddly.
