Woke up to Gaufrid breaking this news and it has made my day. Well done to all those involved in campaigning. I’m sure there was a lot of lobbying behind the scenes we weren’t witness to. Fantastic news.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making this happen. On its own it answers the question at the newsagent this morning: “What are you going to read next week?”

Fantastic news – the extra subscription to the i is well worth it for the IQ alone.

Fabulous News! I was really beginning to wonder if my favourite puzzle was to end. I’ve done it on and off since its first incarnation in 1988 and blogged it on this site since 2007. It would have been a serious wrench if it had disappeared, especially as, with the latest team led by Nimrod, it seems to be in an exceptional phase of creativity and variation. Thanks to all who have made its continuation possible!

  5. Fantastic news! Thank you so much to whoever made this happen.

  6. Michael Gazley

Great news, that has made my day!

    Superb news

  8. Bingy

    Really great news.

Wonderful news! I’ve done the Saturday crossword since its first appearance in the weekend magazine (edited if I remember rightly by an Oxford academic – indeed, a female academic, an appointment which impressed me). When I say ‘done’ I really mean ‘tried to do’, my completion rate not being much above 50 percent, which doesn’t detract from my enjoyment. I occasionally go back to unfinished ones to see if absence has made the mind grow sharper, In fact, I finally finished Inquisitor #2 a few weeks ago, seven or eight years after it first appeared!

Brilliant Easter Egg ! … IQ really does now stand for IMMORTAL QUALITY. Thanks to all who achieved this, particularly JH and DT !

Brilliant news; congratulations to John H and the whole team.

  12. Gila

    Fantastic news. Made my day.

Indeed terrific news. well done to all who fought for the IQ’s continued existence.

Although I never do the Inquisitor, I can confirm that no 1431 is in today’s edition of the i. With a tongue-in-cheek title of Life After Death, a setter called Nimrod, and a plug for Fifteensquared. Good news all round.

  15. Chalicea

I know that all John’s setting team are delighted, this is wonderful news!

  16. Jaguar

Great piece of news, and look forward to seeing the IQ survive for many years to come now.

  17. HolyGhost

Brilliant! At last the uncertainty of where to get puzzle #1432 next weekend, to solve then blog, has been resolved.

So, as John H says, see you on the other side. Well done.

  18. Rob H

Thanks and well done to all concerned. To lose the Inquisitor would have been a travesty.

This is all very well but I cannot find the IQ online. Can anyone point me to it please?

  20. Gaufrid

    tomsdad @20
The Inquisitor has never been available on-line. It was only ever been published in the paper version of the Indy, and now the i.

  21. Tomsdad

Thanks Gaufrid. I have obviously completely misunderstood the conversations! Mea culpa (to quote one of the answers in 1431!)

  22. Chris

    Bewildered & frustrated in NY
Is the I still a print version? I guess I’ve wasted the money for subscription to the Independent!
I was so hopeful I’d be able to get it now I no longer have my sister to fax it.

  23. Chris – The i at present is only available in print… They’re planning a website, but I doubt it’ll have IQ.

  24. Chris

Thank you! So not online either I guess. Too bad!

  25. Chris

    Thank you! Too bad!

  26. John H

Chris, conatct me (maybe via Gaufrid?) – I may be able to help…

    John
