Thanks scchua – I have not got anywhere. Those are Tiffany style lamps in Pic 1, but AFTER DARK is too obvious; however I enjoyed going into the meaning of the word, so googled
“tiffany, early 17th century: from Old French tifanie, via ecclesiastical Latin from Greek theophaneia ‘epiphany’. The word is usually taken to be short for Epiphany silk or muslin, i.e., that worn on Twelfth Night, but may be a humorous allusion to epiphany in the sense ‘manifestation’ (because tiffany is semi-transparent).”
pic 2) Sandra Grant, saxophonist plays the BLUEs
pic 4) A shot from Gorillas in the Mist; SDFA supported the work of Dian Fossey after she was murdered (in COLD BLOOD?)
pic 5) This woman is a competitor in the “I Love Lucy” look-alike contest help annually on Hilton Island, SC. She’s obviously trying to OUTDO the others?
Cookie @1: and I thought those lamps were named after Charles Tiffany, the American who first made them back in the 1890’s.
#1 shows a lamp shade – shade = UMBRA
#5 the lady there is treading grapes – they start off spherical and she makes them flatter – so FLATTERY – and the resulting juice might be used in the production of BLUE nun – actually I often wondered where that strange taste came from.
#4 relates to the theme generally. The little girl is saying:”Are you a real gorilla?”
She gets the response”Of course not – I’m an actor. Attenborough’s filming – well he’s not actually here but he’ll be doing the voiceovers later. The zoo’s supposed to be closed to the public. The rest of the theme park’s open. Clear off out of here and go and play on the rides.”
with hand gesture to that effect.
Freddy, yes the lamps were made by Charles Tiffany; I just wanted to see what the word tiffany might mean in case it gave a hint as to quiz answer.
Pic 1, of course a DUSTER is a “chiffon” and “tiffany” fabric is also chiffon, a light diaphanous fabric of silk, nylon etc.
Hi Cookie, Freddy and JS,
I guess I made this a tad too difficult:
Pic1 Breakfast At Tiffany’s and In COLD BLOOD were both written by Truman Capote
Pic2 BIRD was the nickname of Charlie Parker, jazz saxophonist
Pic3 In Alfred Hitchcock’s North By Northwest, (where the compass needle is pointing), an unforgettable sequence is Cary Grant being pursued by a crop DUSTER
Pic4 JS was right, that gorilla (man in costume?) was giving the BIRD, the middle finger salute
Pic5 The vines in the background could have been trained using the VERANDAH system
Pic6 Remember VERNONs, the football pools company?
Thanks again scchua, I sure remember that crop DUSTER!
Thanks scchua – I wasn’t really right about #4 – just kind of warm – by accident.
