Accommodation: I don’t know if this http://www.yorkracecoursecentre.co.uk/ is worth considering if you’re staying overnight and if you can get a group together. It’s right opposite the Saturday pub and might work out considerably cheaper than many York B&Bs…

Sorry but I’ve decided to enjoy the benefits of a city centre hotel so won’t be able to join anyone thinking of booking the racecourse. C’est la vie.

@Beery – I’ve posted already on our thread that Vavatch & Alcina are happy to join, and Simon/almost is hoping to come. If we can do the Racecourse, I’m definitely signing up. I wish I’d had time to ask MsG about their plans… Let’s keep in touch by email on this (I have Polly’s) and hope that we can drum up another five or six.
I didn’t find cost details on the website, but I didn’t look too hard. John says if we can be a round dozen it will cost £30 a night each (approx) – which is a very, very good deal. Do hope we can magnetise some other takers…

It sounds like we are approaching a number that would make this work, but the more people we can involve, the better the deal will be, so if anybody else is thinking about it it would be good to know!
I have contacted the establishment for details of availabilty and pricing, estimating 12 takers. I’ll report back.
It looks like the accommodation consists mainly of twin en suite (shower) rooms, with a surcharge for single occupancy.

Thank you for your enquiry. We certainly would have availability from Friday 28th October for 1 or nights and the rate would be £35 per person per night. This is based on two people sharing a room and includes your breakfast. We do have single rooms available, and these would be at a cost of £45 per room per night, again including breakfast.
To secure a booking we require a non-refundable deposit of £10 per person and your final balance would be due no later than 2 weeks prior to your arrival.

Hello John,
That’s great news. Just so you’re not surprised on arrival your rooms would be part en-suite with a private toilet and wash basin with shared shower facilities. Despite saying they are shared they are very private with a cubicle with a full lockable door and plenty of room for you to get changed in private in. I would anticipate rooming you on one floor of our main building so therefore you’d have full use of the shower blocks on that floor and wouldn’t share with any other guests.
Normally we do like one guest to act as the leader for the party and for all monies to go through them, but if it is easier for yourself then if guests wish to book separately then we can facilitate that.
