A message from John Henderson (Io, Enigmatist, Nimrod et al):
Here’s my annual spring announcement, regarding what will be our fourth autumn S&B weekend get-together in York, proposed dates: Friday evening 27th October to Sunday lunchtime 29th October. Much of what I said last year applies again:
For those wishing to make a weekend of it, there would of course be the quizzical Ale Trail on the Friday night, and a “Recovery” session on the Sunday morning at the York Tap. Built into the recovery is an extra hour in bed due to the end of DST! The weekend also marks the end of school half-term week.
I have provisionally booked 20 B&B places at The Stables accommodation at York Racecourse for Friday and Saturday nights. This seemed to go down very well last year, being very inexpensive compared to typical weekend hotel rates in York, as well as being situated opposite the venue for the main event on Saturday.
At the moment, would you please simply indicate whether your attendance (and those of other halves etc) would be likely. Assuming numbers are good, I’ll be back with a request for more definite details, later in the year.
Thanks, everyone! John
Can’t think of me not being there.
That’s a yes.
No overnight accomodation needed.
Oh yes. Can’t see wifey letting us miss this.
vv disappointed not to be able to make this (half term) but I just wanted to post a recommendation for the B&B I stayed in: No.21 St. Mary’s, fantastic location for the city centre, breakfast world class (inc. veggie+vegan options but I had the full sheboozle), off-street parking and the owner (Simon, ring him up for a better price than Booking.com) a really top bloke. Much cheaper than hotels in the city (I paid 70 quid last year).
Have a blast; I had a great time there in October
I should be there from Friday to Sunday, and would like to stay at the Stables again. Not sure at this stage whether my better 3/8 will be in attendance.
Count me in please! I would like to stay at the stables again too..
Thanks John
Count me in. Accommodation in The Stables on Friday night please.
Jason
It clashes with me dad’s birthday, I’m skint, and York is a long way from home – but hell, nothing in that to stop me attending such a great do as this and so, barring act of the funny-haired American/North Korean etc, I hope to be there from Fri to Sun.
Not sure about accommodation yet, so will be interested to hear what the group prices for The Stables are when poss (stayed in the City the last two years, though cheaper always better for me, but don’t wanna miss out on early booking elsewhere, natch).
As ever, thanks to the Henderson’s for organising this again – it’s a real highlight of both my crossworld and normalworld year so looking forward to it, and catching up with everyone again, already.
We are planning to be there and would like to stay at the stables again.
Hello John and Jane,
Fully intend to attend on the Saturday, and the date is in the diary. Jennifer and I would both like the usual buffet lunch please – no special requirements. Sadly, no dog this year, life’s not the same.
Intending to be there again this year, just for the Saturday session.
Add two more for the Friday and Saturday sessions, John – no accommodation required.
I’ll be there. Two for Friday and one for Saturday please!
Thank you John, I hope to there on the Saturday.
Thanks, John – just Saturday, please.
Kath and I will be in the UK in October and so we’re planning to attend.
I hope to be there, probably with my usual 2-4 hangers-on for the quiz.
I’ll be there. Not sure if Lynn will be coming.
Count me in John, with accommodation please!
Sorry, that’s accommodation at the stables Friday and Saturday please.
Thanks – and thanks for the puzzles today!
Thanks John. As we mentioned today we’d like a room but just for the Saturday night.
Hi John,
I hope to be there but too early to say if I’ll need accommodation or whether I’ll have anyone with me.
Thanks, John.
Would like two doubles at the Stables, probably for the Friday and Saturday.
Many thanks.
What and where is the “main event” on Saturday?
If it is in a similar format to Nottingham’s event last month, that’s all I need to know about it, but I couldn’t work out the location from the announcement.
I would like to attend, but I don’t know yet if I can.
Alan B
See here for details of the last York event. So far as I know, this year will be similar.
Thanks Gaufrid.
I looked for that page but somehow failed to find it!
Of course. Do we have to book our rooms at the Stables directly again this year?
P.
I’m planning to come if I can. I’ll just get the train on the Saturday
We’d love to be there again after last years excellent bash. Put us down for two but we’ll sort out our accommodation. Thanks.
One extra for the Friday night, John, please. (That’s 3 altogether)
Added info for my post @7. Will now not be needing Stables accommodation as am incorporating me Dad’s birthday with York trip. I’ll still be at both the Fri and Sat events, but will have an extra 2 bodies (in the form of my silver-haired mother and wearingly ‘amusing’ father) for at least some of the Saturday do.
Mr IL and I plan to be there for the weekend. Would love to stay at the Stables if there’s any room left ….
Right, I always say I’m going to come to these things, and I never actually come, but this time I’m going to actually come! See you there!
Having enquired about this event in an earlier comment I now know that I cannot attend as I will be out of the country. I hope it goes well.
Hi John, Andy & I will be there for Friday & Saturday – no sister’s birthday to get in the way this year! We don’t need accommodation. Thanks for organising, looking forward to it.
