    I think in 27 across ‘leader of England’ is E while ‘not the first’ indicates that it is the first E in ‘george’ which has to be removed.

    I agree with passerby@1. Note that you have a typo in spelling Defoe in 15a. No idea who Aaron Lennon is and no real interest in finding out. Thanks to all.

    I thought Aaron Lennon played for Everton (blues) on the right wing. Hardly cryptic.
    Pretty lightweight for the Don, I thought.

    Don’t think that I finish too many of the Don’s puzzles under the half hour, but did with this one over the lunch break on Friday. Enjoyable enough though with many of the clues having a close surface reading to the actual answer – in particularly 10a, 15a, 27a, 14d and 21d.

    Last few in were EXILE, RIGHT WINGER and TRAVERSER.
