One of my favourite setters in his Irish disguise elsewhere and a puzzle I much enjoyed. Interesting to note that he included a couple of references to his supposed career with the author at 11a and the ‘gumshoe’ hidden in 22a + 12a.
Couple of new things for me in the sunhat and the film but both easily got from the wordplay. Didn’t know that 16d could be written as one word.
The surface of 4d raised a smile and the top three spots went to 9,10&22a.

Late to this one and was able to do it over a coffee yesterday afternoon … and it stretched out to be a pretty long coffee break. Not really sure why, but I did have to work through quite a number of them to prise them out.
Both SHOE and ALTO took some time to parse, ROUSSOS took longer than it should have and didn’t twig to the ‘bread’ component of 16d until coming here.
Finished with MAPPING (tricky), OEDIPAL (that I had to work out from the word play) SUPERRICH (which I also hadn’t seen as one word before) as the last few in.
