Enigmatic Variations 1297 Blonde Ambition by Ranunculus

Autumn is here. A tussle with Ranunculus – of the buttercup genus. And the preamble…. The definition parts of nine clues have had two consecutive letters removed which must be reinstated prior to solving. In clue order these spell out what could be a BLONDE AMBITION. Solvers must replace four pairs of letters in the completed grid to reveal four thematically linked items; the displaced letters can be rearranged to identify your reward

I seemed to make hard work of this – suspect I was tuned to FM when I should have been on the new digital channels. A novel twist on the missing letter format in that 2 letters were missing perhaps added to the static on my headset.

Anyway – I eventually got there to ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR – leading to the title’s allusion to Blondes having more fun being their ambition.

The completed grid is below:

A B S C I S S A H C O S T
R E D U C E U O A A R O N
C L O S E D E N T R A N T
H O O P H I T C H O N G H
I V C S S T R E F U G E E
M E R M A I D S U S U A L
E D E S S O R T S E T E L
D I S C S N P R E D A T E
E N C R Y P T U S F N A B
S G E A W A L T Z L O G O
T A N G E L O T E A S E R
D O D G E S G E N T I R E
P L O Y D H E R E S I E S

The fairground attractions to be inserted were Carousels, Hoopla, Waltzer and Dodgems.

A B S C I S S A H C O S T
R E D U C E U O A A R O N
C L O S E D E N T R A N T
H O O P L A T C H O N G H
I V C S S T R E F U G E E
M E R M A I D S U S U A L
E D E S S O R T S E T E L
D I S C S N P R E L A T E
E N C R Y P T U S S N A B
S G E A W A L T Z E R G O
T A N G E L O T E A S E R
D O D G E M S E N T I R E
P L O Y D H E R E S I E S

The changed letters, in the grid,  after rearrangement gave GOLDFISH – hopefully the plastic bag comes with it to complete the reward.

Thanks Ranunculus
