Enigmatic Variations 1321 Common by Vismut

It’s spring and the snow drops from the sky, rather than growing up from the earth. A puzzle from Vismut – a new compiler for me. 4 additional words in across answers which identify a location and where some of the action takes place is identified by the incorrect letters in 11 down clues. To finish it off a viewing location must be highlighted.

First the extra words in the across clues highlighted in red below

South west nine teen or more normally seen as SW19 – the location of Wimbledon common.

So did the 11 incorrect letters spell out a womble – nope – the other famous connection of Wimbledon being tennis and CENTRE COURT.

And on to the location to view the action from – 30 cells comprising starting 6th cell in the 4th row:

    HE

   NMAN

  HILLLMU

 RRAYMOUN

DWIMBLEDON

Henman Hill, Murray Mound Wimbledon – for those who like their tennis but lack the connections or money to bribe their way onto centre court. Correction applied – thanks Tony

Many thanks Vismut – some original clueing and a pleasant solve. I particularly liked the hidden words in the across clues.

  1. Thanks, twencelas, for this. I see from the solution published today that Murray Mound and not Mount was needed. It’s a shame that Mount was available to shade, as was Hen in the top row, rather than He, which was apparently the correct choice. I think it would have been better if such ambiguities had been avoided in the construction and the preamble had said that the highlighting must show an appropriate shape.

  2. Not the most difficult of puzzles, and enjoyable, but the various possibilities for the shading did throw me a bit, if I remember rightly.
