… or should that be another year is about to start?
Well, as we come to the end of another year it is time for me to say thank you to all the bloggers and comment posters who have contributed so much to this site during the past twelve months and to the setters, and their editors, who have provided the cryptic puzzles for our delectation.
Looking back, half a dozen new setters have made their debut during the last year, one each in the FT and Guardian and four in the Independent. However, another half dozen who had one or more puzzles published in 2017 did not reappear in 2018.
So, what is to come during the next twelve months? More of the same I hope – plenty of enjoyable challenges of a cruciverbal nature, with some fun to be had along the way.
All that remains for me to say is a Happy New Year to all who read this (and to those that don’t!).
Happy New Year and thank you to Gaufrid, and all bloggers, setters, and fellow Fifteensquaredians.
I hope 2019 brings us health, happiness, and a gradual reduction in the incidence of ‘pants’ as an anagram indicator. 😀
Indeed, Happy New Year to all.
That said, we lost the great Dac, and I am actually dreading blogging the last ever Everyman set by the eminent CG in a few weeks’ time.
In January last year, Picaroon told me “2018 will be your year”, and, yep, I am one of these half a dozen.
So, for me 2018 was quite special. That said, the ‘eleventh commandment’ forced me to comment much less on Fifteensquared than I did before (which doesn’t feel 100% comfortable).
Still, Fifteensquared is probably the website I visit most.
A fantastic place to visit, perhaps even the place to visit when you love crosswords, civilised and splendidly maintained – thumbs up!
Long may it last.
Thanks Gaufrid, setters, bloggers and commenters!
Happy New Year to all!
A very big thanks to you Gaufrid for all your behind the scenes work which keeps the site not just ticking along, an achievement in itself, but thriving.
Happy New Year to all the Fifteensquared community and looking forward to 2019.
Thanks to Gaufrid for giving us this wonderful resource. I wish everybody a very happy and peaceful new year.
I understand the dilemma in which Sil finds himself re. the “eleventh commandment”…it is difficult to shake the habit of commenting on this site just because one has been published. Sil’s comments about my own puzzles (Knut, Indy and Julius, FT) are always extremely valued by me and I hope that this supply of sound criticism won’t be turned off completely.
Thanks Gaufrid and everyone who blogs and contributes. I think Sil @2 used a very pertinent word to describe this site, and that is CIVILISED. Quite the oasis in the cyberworld of today.
A very happy new year to you all from Finland.
Happy New Year to All. And thanks to all who help maintain this place of (relative) sanity. Without prejudice or fear of mockery..bringing order to our chaos in this uncivilised world..! Thanks again. See you in 2019 , have a good ‘un…!
Happy New Year everyone and thank you Gaufrid for an excellent site
And HNY to everyone, especially Gaufrid for maintaining high standards and being a wonderful efficient source of assistance. Long may 225 remain civilised.
Yes a very happy new year to all setters, bloggers and contributors. But especially to Gaufrid for endless behind the scenes goings on, without which etc. Would be hard to live without.
Many thanks to all. Best wishes for a happy and healthy 2019
I’d like to add my thanks to Gaufrid for his work on both the “mechanics” of the site and his moderation to help keep it a place where a wide range, and sometimes contrary, points of view are aired with courtesy and without rancour – at least most of the time. As others have said this is something to be nurtured in what seems an increasingly intemperate online world.
It is good to see new people posting and long may this continue.
With thanks and best wishes to all who visit this site whether they contribute or not.
Indeed … Well said, Sil and others. Many thanks as ever, Gaufrid, and a happy new year to all.
Many thanks for your efforts. Gaufrid, and a happy new year to you- and everyone else.
Thank you all, very much, for continuing my entertainment and enlightenment and education. Happy New Year.
Thank you Gaufrid, setters, bloggers and commenters for all the fun over this year, fifteensquared is a great site.
A Happy New Year to All.
Thanks, Gaufrid, for another year of civilised exchanges of views between setters, bloggers and commenters. And a Happy New Year to all.
Happy New Year to all, and thanks to Gaufrid and the bloggers for maintaining this wonderful resource.
Hear hear to all above, esp to Mrs Bobbins’s “relative” as to sanity…225 has a wonderful mix of all that’s enjoyable: infinitely varied knowledge fields and lots of love, leavened by delightful veins of quirky eccentricity. Long may it be.
HNY and many thanks to all,
ginf.
Thank you to all involved for the fun, fiendishness and friendships formed – and for a forum for finding out where I failed (and sometimes flourished).
I am particularly grateful to Gaufrid and the bloggers for this site. It means a lot to me.
Sincere best wishes for 2019 to setters, solvers and sloggers in the 15² community.
Thanks, Gaufrid. A Happy New Year to All.
Happy New Year, from the deep south.
Thanks Gaufrid for this awesome site.
What everybody said. Thanks all round, and best wishes for the New Year.
Likewise. Happy New Year to all! A brilliant site – thanks so much, Gaufrid.
Many thanks, Gaufrid – many happy returns of the New Year New Year to you and to all the lovely setters, bloggers, commenters and lurkers here.
I don’t post very often but read the Guardian crossword blogs every day. Thanks for a wonderful site, Gaufrid.
Many thanks to all the bloggers who give up so much time to help enlighten us, a truly remarkable service; and of course to Gaufrid for making it all possible, on point, and, as others have said, civilised.
Thanks to everyone involved in this wonderful site.
Thanks to everyone involved in this wonderful site.
As a Tuesday blogger, I’ve had the last two crosswords off & am in withdrawal already. This site is one addiction that I WON’T be fighting this January. Thanks to bloggers, posters & lurkers wheree’r in the world ye may be, and as ever a special thank you to the great Gaufrid. Happy New Year to you all.
Many thanks to Gaufrid for running this, and to everyone who contributes. Before the internet it must have been a strange, empty and mysterious world out there in crosswordland. To all the lurkers – please do join in, all opinions are very valuable, and people appreciate knowing about your blind spots, your sense of achievement, your gratitude for an explanation that has passed you by. It is a fantastic community! Happy New Year.
Many thanks Gaufrid for all your valiant efforts.
Also many thanks to everyone who comments on the blogs. As Eccles has already said – if there are any lurkers out there, do please join in. Your comments are appreciated.
Last but not least, thanks to all the setters for giving us so much enjoyment! We cannot imagine life without crosswords.
This is a great site – many thanks to all who run it and contribute to it.
But then, of course, you’re reading this so you already know that 🙂
A belated Happy New Year to all!
