A pleasant start to a working week of crosswords from ARMONIE.

Guardian 27,508 / Pan
It has become quite a game, trying to guess who will fill the Monday slot. Today it’s Pan’s turn to provide the ‘gentle start to the week’. Here we have a straightforward, precisely … Read more >>
Quiptic 965 by Matilda
Matilda’s turn in the Quiptic slot this week.
Independent 9854/Tees
Tees is becoming quite the Monday Indy regular. Since Monday is my blogging day, you’ll hear no complaints from this direction. A fine puzzle, with excellent surfaces, clear cluing, and a wide variety … Read more >>
Private Eye (Cyclops/624) Smelly geezer
A tougher crossword this time – that’s what it seemed to me. Solving began with a bang when 1A flew in and way over half the grid was filled on the first pass. … Read more >>
Independent on Sunday 1,472 – Hoskins
I am only a stand-in today but I am really pleased to have an encounter with Hoskins, my first actually (as a blogger, that is)!
Everyman 3734
A fairly brief blog today, simply because it is as usual a well-crafted puzzle from Everyman with no quibbles, so there’s not a right lot to say. Abbreviations cd cryptic … Read more >>
AZED 2,395
A lower than usual obscure word count for me this week, but I didn’t find it any easier or less enjoyable for that. Thank you Azed.

A themed puzzle “to mark a 200th birthday”.
Independent 9,852 / Serpent

YORK S&B weekend 26-28th October 2018
A message from John Henderson:
Here’s my annual spring announcement, regarding what will be our fifth autumn S&B weekend get-together in York, proposed dates: Friday evening 26th October to Sunday lunchtime 28th October with the main event at the Fox and Roman during the day on Saturday 27th. Once again, we have avoided a clash with the final of The Times Crossword Championships, which is being held in London the following week (see the Crossword Event Calendar).
Guardian 27,506 / Brummie
A reasonably straightforward puzzle from Brummie this morning. We usually expect a theme from Brummie and so I was on the lookout from the beginning. I was pleased to see SESAME … Read more >>
Financial Times 15,855 by BRADMAN
An atypical challenge from BRADMAN today, with a disporportionate number of long words/phrases. A few words that I didnt know before the solve but quite easily gettable from the solid construction of the clue.
