Independent 10,121 by Phi

It’s Phi-day again!
We found this one to be at the easier end of the Phi spectrum, although we had to check a few synonyms to confirm some of the parsings.

We were helped by recognising the lepidopteran theme fairly early on, which speeded up the completion of the bottom half of the grid.

Thematic entries are highlighted in the grid below – we don’t think we’ve missed any, but we’re not experts in the field!

This was good fun, but as usual I completely missed the theme.  I’m not sure why “pets” are “members favoured” in 25a.

Many thanks to Phi and to B&J.

  2. Surely the definition in 25 across is ‘with agreement’, not ‘agreement’?

  3. Hovis

Also in 25a, I took INS to be “elected members” and TEP to be >PET (favoured). IN as a noun can refer to an elected MP.

  4. Bertandjoyce

We thought of it as in ‘teacher’s pets’ – members of the class. We agree though with Geoff@2 about ‘with agreement’ as the definition. We will not be able to alter the blog though as we are in transit!

  5. I also missed the theme but enjoyed the solve.

I particularly liked the BANANA SKIN and OFFSETS.

    Thanks Phi and BJ.

Can’t believe that I missed the theme – ho hum.

Enjoyed this one with my particular favourite being 22a.

Thanks to Phi and to B&J for the review.

Enjoyable as ever from Phi – we missed the theme, though (what’s new?)

Re 21dn, we thought the clue was a bit dated – Ladas disappeared from the UK market some years ago as they didn’t meet emssion regulations.  Actually, we had one for a few years, and very reliable it was.

No real CoD, but we liked WHITE SEA, ORIGINAL and TOTOISESHELL.

    Thanks, Phi and B&J.
