1. Quite a few unknown words for me: POOTERISH (kudos to anyone who got this without a word fit), HISPID, NICENE & PECCARIES. Also had to use a word fit to get CAUSATIVE, so a “must do better” on my report card.

   Minor error in blog for 1a. AN is not part of anagrist. Also explanation for 24d (homonym of waist) has gone AWOL.

2. Not sure about definition for 21d. The town itself is Nicaea although the creed is known as the Nicene Creed. Or have I missed the point?

   I can’t make 1a work. Fairly easy to spot the grist to be anaground but I think SUPPLEMENTARY means ADDITIONAL, whereas SUPPLEMENT means ADDITIONAL SUM. Is this why there is a ?? The clue could simply have been UNEXPECTED PAYMENT PLUS ADDITIONAL, or am I missing something?

   I’m also not sure why there is a ? @16d

   @21d The answer might be NICENE if IN is included in the definition.

   One or two quibbles then, but a good fun puzzle

4. I enjoyed it, thanks Turbolegs and Don, but I share the above quibbles. Also (sorry to be thick) how in 16d does BEAT mean CAT?

5. Cat also means to whip (nautically).

6. As you say Turbolegs a relatively easy challenge from Bradman today with his trademark vocabulary extending solutions – HISPID was new to me. HEPCAT rang a bell, and no kudos for me Hovis@1 as I also used wordsearch although I did know the word when it came up as I think was in a Guardian puzzle a few weeks ago. Dansar’s quibbles went unnoticed by me. Thanks to setter and blogger.

7. I didn’t find this crossword as easy as most of you, perhaps because of so many words being unfamiliar to me.

   ‘Supplementary’ can be a noun too.

   Which ‘a’ do you mean? The A in USA? What’s the problem? USA is even better for ‘America’ than US.

   As to 21d, I really don’t see what you mean. The second ‘in’ is just a link word, perfectly all right.

   I didn’t see SUPPLEMENTARY that way but I’ll have another look at it in the light of your comment.

   My query re 16d was not in regard to any “a” – it was about the ? at the end of the clue. I see CAUSATIVE as synonymous with PRODUCING AN EFFECT so I don’t understand the purpose of the ?

   In 21d the city’s name is NICAEA, my inclusion of IN in the definition was an attempt to get the setter off the hook!

9. OK, Dansar, I agree that there’s no question mark needed in 16d.

   I also see your point re NICENE now. You’re probably right (again!).

10. I found this hard. Gave up at 80%. SW caused most of problems, as both 18s unknown. Can generally finish Bradman. Hmmm

    Ps. Pleased to finally see Sil having trouble. A rarity.

    About an average Don puzzle for me several months on. Same queries as others, esp axially with 21d. Had to go back and fix LETTING UP and an erroneous EXISTANT. HISPID, I hadn’t heard of at all – POOTERISH I also looked up with a word finder but was familiar with the word whedn it showed up. Struggled with CAT for beat until I found it in a dictionary.
    Finished with my corrected LETTING GO after working out MELODY.
