For what it’s worth, AN for Anglo-Norman is in Chambers.

One of those puzzles that seems quite hard at the time but, once the grid’s filled, you wonder why it felt that way!

27a made me smile – our setter maybe even has such a photo from a school Christmas show featuring one of his offspring.

Thanks to Kairos for the puzzle and to scchua for the very clear explanations.

  3. allan_c

Pleasant enough if a little harder than some IoS puzzles.  Thanks, Kairos and scchua.

  4. Kairos

Thanks all for commenting.  Did anyone spot the ghost theme?

  5. Tatrasman

The only theme I can see is about image-making so IMAGE, VIDEO, TIME LAPSE, PHOTO, maybe others? Why always so few responses for the IoS? I would have expected more on a day of leisure. Thanks Kairos and Scchua.

  6. Hovis

Tatrasman. I noticed that. I also noted some time/times but not enough to count as a ghost theme. We have ANCIENT times, TIME LAPSE, TIME MACHINE. CROSSES represent times as multiplication. At a push, a COURTROOM could give a time sentence, SEVEN is a time of day, UNCERTAIN times. And, at a real push, EASTERN(er) time and NEVERNEVER.
