  1. thanks Gurney/scchua! nice illustrations in the blog.  But shouldn’t 21a ANDES have been defined in the plural as “High points”?  (someone of course will now tell me that there’s a singular Mount Andes somewhere… 🙂

  2. Thanks, Gurney — unusually with you, I flunked some today (but won’t embarrass myself with the detail). And thanks for the hard work, scchua.

  3. Thanks Scchua — I was too SCATTER-BRAINED to fully parse 14a and solved it using the surface along with SCAT/RAIN. SONNET and OWN BRAND were two other answers I got without seeing the full picture. Favorites included 9c and 16d. Thanks Gurney.

  4. Thanks Gurney and scchua

Enjoyable puzzle that was done just after a relaxing swim in tropical Queensland.  Went in relatively smoothly although a few of the clues took a little while to see the full word play, especially ‘Singer’ as the INVENTOR (took ages to twig to the sewing machine man).

Thought that the THREE-POINT TURN was cute and enjoyed working out the construction of SCATTERBRAINED.

Finished in the NE corner with ONE-TIME (another hidden word that took a while to spot), MINISKIRT (the broad definition meant that it had to be put together from the wordplay) and SNIPE (where needed to check that the malicious attack indeed could mean ‘criticise’).
