A gentle ZAMORCA for an Easter Monday…

Hope you all had a happy Easter!

An enjoyable bunch of clues here, with nothing proving too taxing – though 8a took longer to solve and 11a longer to parse than they ought.

Spent a while at the end wondering if I’d made a mistake somewhere, as this looked like it was going to be a pangram, but appears to be short a “W”.

Thanks ZAMORCA!

    thanks Z and T! a tidy puzzle.

I too lingered over 11a — I tried making SYM=reversal(mys=homophone(miss=young woman)) — since it was so close I resisted the correct parsing for a while.

15d: I didn’t know that NI is a well-known (UK) tax but eventually did look it up.  So all held together in the end.

I also felt this was meant to be a pangram but noted the lack of any W. Perhaps some last minute changes inadvertently caused this omission. Some simple changes, e.g., SIEVE -> SWEDE could have rectified this (there’s a V in avocado in case you’re wondering).

Before getting CENTRE, I couldn’t get my mind off a different solution for 6d.

The GARDEN CENTRE across the top reminds us of better days.

    Thanks to Zamorca and Teacow.

I found this harder than Zamorca’s previous puzzles. I was also held up by the not so easy SYMPHONIES and, I’m embarrassed to admit, the not so difficult CENTRE. I parsed everything, except for the ‘tax return’ in 15d, but still had an uneasy feeling about that missing W at the end.

    Thanks to Zamorca and Teacow

    Thanks Zamorca and Teacow

Only took 20 minutes in a couple of short stints to get this one out, but it seemed like it was a lot longer for some reason.  Off to a good start with HIT BACK AT as the last one in but wrongly entered TELL OFF at 6d and struggled with this version of the spelling of TEEPEE for longer than necessary.  The pangram possibility didn’t enter into my head during the solve today.

Had recently come across the EROS fountain in another puzzle, so was right on to the first part of 13d.

Like others QUALITY and SYMPHONIES were the last couple in with the former taking a while to get the actual word and the second just as long to understand why it was the word.

An enjoyable puzzle whilst stuck inside in a not so enjoyable world that we have these days – stay safe all !!

Thanks, Zamora and Teacow! Not difficult and a good one for a shelter-in-place day. Thought there would be a theme with my first few in, AVOCADO, OKRA and JUICE, which can all come from a GARDEN … ours is just starting to come out in Chicago … Stay healthy, all!

  6. allan_c

Our last one in was QUALITY, which then had us as well hunting fruitlessly for a pangram.  A pleasant solve nevertheless.

    Thanks, Zamorca and Teacow.

  7. Tony Santucci

Thanks Zamorca. Could not get QUALITY but otherwise all went well. Enjoyed many clues esp. JUICE and VULGAR. Able to parse SYMPHONIES but could not figure out the wordplay for RELAPSE — did not see that knees equalled laps. Thanks Teacow for explaining.

  8. NNI

Didn’t like LAPS for KNEES, nor National Insurance for TAX, but otherwise a very enjoyable experience.
