Update: I have found the cause of the missing paragraph spaces in comments. The plugin that generated the WYSIWYG comment field is not compatible with the latest version of WordPress. I have therefore had to deactivate it and so you will have to make do with just plain text until either the plugin is updated or I have found a suitable alternative.
I installed the latest release of WordPress late yesterday afternoon. Today there appears to be a problem with paragraph spaces not being included in some comments, whereas other comments are fine. To help me resolve this issue, please let me know if your comments have appeared as intended, or have had missing paragraph spaces, and which browser was being used, on what type of device (pc, tablet etc), when posting the comment.
I had missing spaces using Windows 10/Chrome/PC.
Same as Robi @1.Just testing again now.
Yes, I was affected – using Firefox on Windows 10.
Now using this comment to test on the Android phone – there should be a paragraph break before this sentence.
Yes, the glitch is still there – and it appears to be a continuing problem for many (most) posters – for example Michelle and beery hiker who have just posted on the Vulcan blog.
Had some missing paragraphs–Firefox/MacBook/OS X 10.15.7.
Android phone using its own browser.
New Paragraph.
Android phone using Chrome.
New Paragraph.
No paragraphing when using an iPad.
The previous comment was using Safari. This one is too..
But this new comment is from an iPhone.
Thanks for the feedback. I am now clear as to the cause of the problem and why some comments were unaffected.
The plugin that generated the WYSIWYG comment field (which is not compatible with the latest version of WordPress) was only used when viewing the site on desktop pc or similar. It was disabled when in mobile view and so comments made there were unaffected.
Thanks Gaufrid.
This should appear as a new paragraph.
Argh – poor you, Gaufrid. One of my WordPress sites “upgraded” automatically to 5.6 last night and I’ve spent most of the day trying to fix broken things…
Thank you for all you do and all power to you…
Hi MaidenBartok @12
You have my sympathies. WordPress is good, until it breaks, as it has done now. I had hoped that I had restored normality to posting comments, via a plugin, but only time would tell. But it has. I couldn’t post this comment until I deactivated the plugin.
And our sympathies to YOU Gaufrid, for having to deal with another site headache not of your making. I’m sure I speak for all in expressing our support and appreciation for all you do to provide this wonderful platform for our community. If there’s anything we can do to help let us know.
