Enigmatic Variations No. 1477 Overlapping by Piccadilly

11 clues hinting at two overlapping words. The rest are straight forward cryptic ones.

A fun puzzle at the easier end of the spectrum. I did really enjoy it and it was nice that the overlapping clues made sense in their own right.

The unchecked letters spell out MANIC CHAV BARRY JILTS PAST LOVER is the bit I forgot to mention.

Thanks Piccadilly

  1. The clues made this quite an easy puzzle to solve, helped also by being given the ‘unchecked’ letters in the thematic answers as well as all their individual word lengths. I hope it’s not out of place to say that this is a very good puzzle for solvers new to the genre. It had a simple, well-executed theme and, as with all these puzzles, there were several new words to find, look up and learn (at least for me).
    Thanks to Piccadilly and twencelas.

  2. Alan B I completely agree about the level. Accessible, well executed and fun. All big ticks in my book and good to lure the new solvers in.

  3. A very nice idea, simple but effective. The elegance of each overlapping clue being a recognisable phrase was particularly neat. Very enjoyable- thanks Piccadilly and twencelas

  4. I agree with above comments. I particularly enjoy Piccadilly puzzles as in these we don’t usually have to search the grid for something to highlight. Loved the Little Mix and similar clues. Thanks Piccadilly and twencelas.
