Occasional setter Angel with more of the setter’s art
Repeated setter above because quite a few different types of setter (25) are featured. I notice OSLO in an unchecked row but I suspect it’s just one of those unintentional things, thanks Angel. Sorry for any mistakes or typos – been a bit covid struck this week as I learn was Angel herself too. For those following the footie oh well next time maybe.

Thanks, Angel & Flashling and get well soon both. Enjoyed this – I like this kind of theme that plays on different meanings of a key word. Nicely done.
Almost a shame this isn’t Angel’s debut or 16d could have been a very neat &lit.
Very nice start to a cold Sunday.
Along with OSLO, ANNE appears in the tenth column. Probably just chance, they are all frequently used letters.
Thanks (and best wishes) to flashling and Angel
Very enjoyable one. First in was, conveniently, SETTER and last in was WAVE, my latin being fairly rudimentary. Many thanks to Angel and Flashling!
Thanks both. The key clue at 25 took me longer than it should, though the ‘many found here’ part doesn’t appear to tell us anything we don’t already know, as all linked clues reference 25. I assume ‘rampant’ in GORDON is an anagrind?
Rampant is a reversal indicator in a down clue – as used in heraldry to mean standing up (ie an animal standing on its hind legs).
1d seemed a bit strange and a rather long winded way to clue a very short word but, that aside, this was light and great fun incorporating very clever use of several totally different meanings of 25d.
Many thanks to Angel and to flashling.
Well, I once met an Anne in Oslo but it seems unlikely that this was our Angel. If it was you, we were staying at the youth hostel in about 1972!! Thanks anyway for a most enjoyable puzzle. And thanks Flashling for the blog.
Good fun as usual from Angel, and a theme that didn’t collapse thanks to the varied use of the word. I also enjoyed the nods to other setters. Paul’s awful and alarming indicator made me laugh.
Thanks both and get well soon.
Having got PECTIN and ENGLISH, I was perplexed about what 25 would be, but the anagram was helpful. WAVE (pace RabbitDave) and CERAMIC were my favourites.
I’m not a fan of inter-related clues but I did enjoy rooting out the various setters in this one.
Well done, Angel, and many thanks to flashling for the review – hope you are both over the Covid symptoms in time for the festive season.
We got most of this in one session but had to come back to finish with a few clues in the SE corner but once we got GELATIN the others fell into place. Favourites were CERAMIC and IMBROGLIO.
Thanks – and get well soon – Angel and flashling.
Thanks Angel for the fun. My only complaint is that it was over much too quickly. I particularly liked the cleverness of 16d. Thanks flashling for the blog. Best of health to all.
