I sat opposite ‘Eck at the last Listener get-together in Farringdon a few weeks back. At some point he told me that he had a puzzle coming soon. Of course, what he should’ve told me was that…
…he had several puzzles coming soon! This was it and goes to show that the idea for a Listener can come from pretty much anywhere. This one was based around the puzzle page at the back of the Saturday Review section of the weekend Times and, apart from anything else, had the most bizarre clue numbering I’d ever seen.
The puzzles themselves comprised a standard Carte Blanche, a batch of nine Polygons, a Codeword and two Sudokus, each providing a message for the next stage. Anyway, a picture’s worth a thousand words, so here goes.
Great fun. Thanks, ’Eck.
I thought I’d failed at the final hurdle or two (after many many hours) but I was several puzzles off. Kudos to those who got to the end and thank you ‘Eck for a severe challenge.
There aren’t enough hours in the day, by ‘eck.
