  1. Thanks Moley and scchua

A relatively easy quiptic compared to some in recent weeks. I came here wondering about the spelling in 5d and the parsing in 13. I await further comments on 13. Sorry I cannot contribute any more than scchua has already.

[I wait with baited breath for the picture puzzle]

  2. Thanks scchua, as a recent beginner I really appreciate the extra level of detail you’ve gone into in explaining how the clues work! Thanks also for explaining 5 as I’d assumed it was a mistake. I agree that 13 looks faulty though hadn’t actually noticed as the clue fell in so quickly I didn’t stop to review.

  3. Thanks Moley and scchua

It takes a few steps to get from STRAIT to “upright”; the basic meaning is “narrow” (so the phrase is tautologous) or restricted – btw I like your example of another word commonly mispelled, Kevin!

I don’t think the “in” in 1d works, and the clue for LARGENESS looks a bit self-referential. Otherwise, a good puzzle.

  4. Thanks, scchua (and welcome back).

Moley has given us a good Quiptic here. Just one or two tricky ones, which is what crossing letters are for. Can’t help with HERB GARDEN, I’m afraid.

And since we seem to be in a picky mode this morning, I’ll just mention to muffin that he has misspelled misspell.

    I’ll get me coat.

  5. Thank you Moley and scchua.

Most enjoyable, a puzzle I could finish in a reasonable time; great for a Monday since I am tempted to try to solve two.
    Loved EXTRACURRICULAR!

  6. Kathryn’s dad @5
Of course I did! It’s a Universal Law that any post pointing out a misprint must include one itself.

  7. Thanks Moley & scchua.

Good level for a Quiptic. I also can’t see how HERB GARDEN works. The AND in 5d seems to be assumed. Might have been better with ‘as well as’ or some such rather than just a comma, if I understand it correctly.

  8. Generally a good Quiptic, my favourite clue being for SUBEDIT. I’ve no explanation to offer for 13d, though.

    Thanks, Moley and scchua.
