Comment Editor

I have just installed a new comment editor for the desktop site (the comment editor when in mobile view is unchanged). It has buttons for bold, italics and adding a link and it is WYSIWYG. I hope it is self-explanatory but if you have any questions, or find any issues, please comment below.

If the problem is that you are unable to post a comment please email me at admin{at}fifteensquared{dot}net.

Edit: On short posts such as this one, you may need to scroll down to get to the comment editor. We had this problem resolved when testing the new software in the sandbox but it has reappeared on the updated live site. My apologies for the inconvenience, I will try to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible.

This is too pale and tiny, I need a magnifying glass…

I can increase the font size in the comment editor but it is currently set to the same size as the font used in posts and comments (at least that is how it is displayed in the browsers I have tried).

  2. Thank you Gaufrid.

It occurred to me after posting that I should have used the GENERAL DISCUSSION  or  SITE FEEDBACK facilities, but was not sure which.  Have just found Comment Editor to the left of the screen.  Apologies.  Might it be possible to remove comments 7 and 8 from the Everyman blog?

The letters of the  typed in comment before were a little larger than when they were posted.

  3. PS, as you mention, the letters, abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz, are the same as those posted, and thus clearer to the eye than the typed ones in the past, so an actual preview comment is not necessary, but they are very pale.

  4. This new option is very much appreciated by me.
However, it does not work on my PC when using IE.
In Google Chrome everything’s fine, though.

  5. Hi Sil @4

I thought you might like it. That is odd, I did all my initial sandbox testing using IE11 and had no problems whatsoever once a few wrinkles had been ironed out. I have since tested using Chrome, Firefox and Edge and again no problems. What exactly is not working, the buttons, the submit comment or what?

Could this ‘paler’ effect be due to viewing the comment editor and the comment itself at a different angle? When using my desktop, the screen is nearly vertical, so there is little difference in angle, but I have noticed on my laptop where the screen is is raked back that there can be a substantial perceived difference in colour and brightness between the top and bottom of the screen which can change when the angle of view is altered.

Also, it could be a contrast issue. In the comment editor the background is white whereas the comments appear on an alternating very light grey/slightly darker grey background.

Anyway, your issue is on my list of things to be investigated, I don’t want anyone to be unhappy with the change.

There is no easy way for me to change the background colour of the comment editor box or to alter the weight of the font (other than to make it bold which would rather defeat the object of having a WYSIWYG editor).

Whilst I await feedback from other site visitors, might I suggest that, before starting to write a comment, you hold down the Ctrl key and press the + key. This will enlarge the comment editor box and the text within it (you can do this twice if you want ever larger text). When you have submitted your comment you can revert back to your normal viewing size by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing the – key (do this the same number of times as you did when enlarging the text and you will be back to where you started).

  8. Gaufrid, the buttons are just not there.
    None of them.
It feels a bit similar to the WordPress issue in which IE11 didn’t display only one of the Visual/Text tabs.

I could make Google Chrome my standard Internet browser, of course.
[which I do not object to, by the way]

  9. Hi Sil,

What version of Internet Explorer do you have installed?  The version number can be found by selecting help->About Internet Explorer from the menu (or the settings icon if you do not have a menu).

Have you tried removing 15² from the IE11-Tools-Compatibility View settings. If not please do so and then see if the buttons appear (you might need to clear the IE11 cache first).

  11. Gaufrid @7, thank you.  Yes, the Leave a Reply box is a little nearer to the bottom of the screen, which could account for the relative faintness of the letters, nothing to do with the background, which is white, and angle of my screen, which is upright.  However, the letters are a little smaller than before here – they are the same size as before, I think,  when inserted in the blog.

Now I am trying your recommendation for enlarging the box.

    Wow, that works!
