  1. What a wonderfully entertaining puzzle this was at the easier end of this setter’s range.  My only hold-up was with 5d for which I needed to look up HOB in Chambers.

    My joint favourites were 1a & 8d.

Many thanks to Kairos and to scchua.

  2. Delightful way to start the day.   Like RD, I had to look up the first part of 5d and I also needed to verify 1d.

    Particularly liked 23a plus 7&8d.

Many thanks to Kairos and to scchua for the blog.

  3. Enough to keep me thinking here, with some unfamiliar words such as HOBBLING for ‘Perplexing’ and KNAPPING, but not as fiendish as eg last week’s Monk or Paul, for which I was thankful. I didn’t know ‘Mr Donnelly’ but guessed DECCA which I was surprised to see in these digital days is still with us.

I enjoyed HOME-BREW, whether it really ‘conjures up moonshine’ or not.

    Thanks to Kairos and scchua.

  4. Reference 8dn our tour guide in Pompeii opted for the explanation that the origin of the phrase is more literal, referring to the smaller nearby town of Mori which of course conveniently translates to ‘die’. Greatly preferred for those of us with future plans post Italian cruise

  5. Got KEEP OFF THE GRASS at the kick-off, which got things off to a good start, but found the pitch didn’t remain quite as smooth throughout.  Had trouble remembering to see NAPLES.  Thanks to TFO @6 for the alternative explanation.

All much enjoyed, with KNAPPING HAMMERS my favourite.

    Thanks Kairos and scchua.

  6. Thanks kairos and scchua

For some reason had Venice instead of Naples, soon corrected.

Pleasant puzzle, enjoyed home brew, decca, snowy owl, morph, embargo and more.
