Thanks Orlando and scchua
Nice to see Orlando again. Very enjoyable puzzle, though the GK for BASIL and SALLOWS was perhaps not Quiptic in standard.
I think this was a perfect Quiptic. Luckily I am a big fan of Fawlty Towers, so Basil was easy for me!
My favourites were UNTHINKING, EYEBROWS + OBITUARY, all of which made me chuckle.
Thank you Orlando and scchua
Yes I thought this was a perfect Quiptic too: a pleasing mix of different types of clueing, some instantly guessable, others a little knottier, with some satisfying misdirections. BASILDON and UNTHINKING made me grin.
Thanks Orlando and Scchua
I found this to be on the easy end, even for a Quiptic. No complaints, though, my level of proficiency doesn’t yet allow me to be disappointed when everything goes in too easily. Some nice surfaces here, including those mentioned by Michelle@2, and MAGNA CARTA had some clever Quiptic-level misdirection. Thanks to Orlando and Scchua.
Thanks to Orlando and Scchua
Very enjoyable. The IN TURN homophone was a bit of a stretch (for me anyway) but hardly worth mentioning in an enjoyable Quiptic poised at just the right level. And UNTHINKING was worth the detour. Loud cheers!
I agree that this was a very enjoyable Quiptic. Particular favorites were 17a, for the hidden definition, 26a for the surface and the misleading but accurate definition, and 13d for using ANAGRAM in an anagram.
Definitely good for the Quiptic style, which is where I’m starting out on my cryptics journey. Most came to mind immediately but there were a few tricky ones in there.
I had ‘cast’ rather than ‘carp’. As in ‘to cast the blame’ and ‘cast your line’ which made solving eyebrows rather awkward!
Great fun, and exactly the right level of difficulty for a Quiptic, IMO. Cheers Orlando!
