  1. Thanks, Tees for the lovely puzzle.
Thanks, scchua for your illustrated and neat blog (as always).

Liked AEGEAN SEA and VIAGRA (including your comment).

    PAWNBROKER:
There is no explicit def. Maybe intentional. Just an inferred def as scchua says.

  2. Morning all and happy Easter.

Yes, apologies for 3D, esp as the wording would hardly describe anyone I’ve ever met who is a pawnbroker. My uncle did a runner there, obvs. The ‘lowly man’ bit is chess, btw.

  3. Thank you Tees, PAWNBROKER was my LOI, but the lack of uncle makes sense.

The blog commentary on VIAGRA made me laugh out loud, thank you scchua.

  4. This was good fun apart from the incomprehensible definition for 3d. I took sink=drain in 26a to apply to a pint of beer, for example.

Many thanks to Tees and to scchua.

  5. Very enjoyable and mercifully easier then yesterday’s brain mangler though I found the LHS a fair bit tougher than the right.
Didn’t bother to parse VIAGRA, just laughed, I also particularly enjoyed AEGEAN SEA and SPLINTER.
    Many thanks Tees and scchua.

  6. So good. Absolutely goldilocks for me including a SIGNAL chuckle at VIAGRA (amplified by the Taj Mahal reference).
Thanks both for the succulent Easter egg. (Pity about ‘uncle’ – but what else could it be? And nice of Tees to drop by.)

  7. Another fun crossword from Tees. I’m pleased to see I wasn’t the only one who wondered if the uncle had gone away for an Easter break

Happy Easter and many thanks to Tees and scchua

  8. Stumbled with a couple of bits of parsing but got there eventually. Must investigate TREPAN – I’ve always viewed it as being a drill rather than a saw!
Favourites here were AEGEAN SEA and SHAGGY.

Thanks to Tees and to scchua for the review.

  9. jane @ 9: you trepan with a holesaw – basically a drill bit with a toothed circular fitting. Sometimes the drill bit is omitted, which might reduce accuracy…

  10. Lovely fun from Tees. Enjoyed the wine-dark one particularly. Happy Bunnies & Crème Eggs to all

  11. Julie@12 It means you have checked but got it wrong. Like the Greeks of old I spent too long on Tauris before arriving at the Aegean Sea.

  12. Thanks Tees for an enjoyable crossword which I solved (except for PAWNBROKER and ALEXANDRIA) while taking a break from Neo’s Easter Jumbo in the FT. Thanks scchua for the blog.
