A post-S&B appeal

York S&B was a great weekend — even the weather did us proud — and it was lovely to see so many of you there. Those who were will know that Tess (the well-known cruciverbal lurcher, who was also there) and I are challenging ourselves to walk at least 75 miles in October to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA), which supports people with MND and their families, and funds research into the condition. By the end of yesterday, we had covered 79.97 miles.

Those of you from our little world may know that Chris Lancaster — Telegraph crossword editor as well as the setter Samuel — is now living with MND. It’s with Chris very much in mind that we are doing this.

Many thanks to those who have donated so far. I will pay in your cash donations shortly. I also promised I would add a link to the donation site here. It’s:

Any donation you can give, no matter how small, will help to make a difference. Thank you.

  1. It was my first time to one of these events and I had a ball. It was lovely seeing John Jane and of course Tess.
I met people that have just been names in the past until now. I only came for a few hours with my husband Ken MacKenzie and I now can understand the appeal of his so called nerdy weekends.
Once again a big thank you.

  2. Anne-Marie’s and my first time too, and many thanks to you and others for being so welcoming (and to Tess for her harmonic accompaniments to the applause). MNDA is a great cause, and congratulations for hitting your target.

  3. A friend of mine recently went from MNDA-he made it to 60 and his positive attitude was a lesson to us all
Full marks for all efforts for the cause

  4. An update — By the end of 31 October, we had walked 90.65 miles and raised £771.

Thanks to everyone. The donation site remains open until 10 November.

  5. Realise I’m very late to this blog now, but as a non-Uk based solver, what is the S&B? Is it a forum for amateur setters, or have I completely missed the boat?
