Enigmatic Variations 1685 Entry by Craft

A celebration of a famous entry – an area to be found – a quotation from extra letters in across clues leading to an answer to be found. The surname of the entrant needs to be shaded along with teh area. Clear as mud but as always solve the clues and the endgame will seem quite obvious.

The quotation took a while to locate “CAN YOU SEE ANYTHING?” being a question from Lord Caernavon to Howard Carter as he entered Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1923. The answer being Yes – ‘Wonderful Things”

Starting from 18dn square going east then south then west then north – there is TOMB OF TUTANKAHMUN with CARTER the initial entrant to the tomb starting from 4dn ‘descending’ into it.

The remainder of the puzzle required entering an N into the central square making an anagram of WONDERFUL THINGS encased within the tomb and eventually removed to the Egyptian museum in Cairo

many thanks Craft – a fine debut – some tricky clues too
