Avatar information added to FAQ

See FAQ menu: https://www.fifteensquared.net/faq/

Following an earlier post: To “Av” or to “Av” not. After wading through all the negative comments there were a few requests for details on how to add an avatar.

This now available in FAQ at the above link.

Please let’s keep any replies positive.

Avatars are not going away unless anyone can give concrete proof that millions of websites around the world have it wrong. (nine-year-old scaremongering posts do not count)

  1. I never thought I would say this but I find them very useful , they are a valuable genetic marker . Is religious symbolism allowed ? I am a founder member of The Order of the White Circle .

  2. Thanks for doing that!

I would suggest adding the following at the end of the first paragraph: “Make sure you use the same email address that you use with fifteensquared.”

I think it might also be worth changing the title of the faq as many might now know what an avatar is. How about, “How do I change the picture that is displayed by my name when I add a comment?”

The first paragraph could then become: “This picture is called an avatar and is provided by Gravatar. To set one up, please visit…”

Great work on the new default avatar!

  3. Great idea to add to the FAQ, Ken, and good edits suggested here@2. With the addition of the default, the pages look better than ever IMHO.

  4. Me @5, the default avatar appears to have changed from the agreeable little crossword sticker to the Gravatar default – referred to in the discussion about avatars as “dreadful”. I wonder is this a deliberate change or am I missing something.

  5. @6

This was related to this morning’s troubleshooting. The “agreeable little crossword sticker” is back.

    Nice ball – how appropriate.

  6. Thank you admin@9 🙂 You can take a girl out of IT, but you can’t take the IT out of a girl.
I think though that after 55+ years working in it, I can be forgiven for feeling a bit of ennui with the whole palaver. 🥴
