I think Ploy must have a fetish for anagrams, or at least that’s the way it seemed to me when I was solving this puzzle. However, having said that, there were some pleasing surfaces, my favourite being 28d. An easy EV which took over twice as long to blog as it did to solve.
The theme was ‘doctors’, with four in the grid (all fictitious), for which the clues only contained the wordplay, and a further (proverbial) three to be highlighted in the grid after completion.
The proverb referred to in the preamble is “The best doctors are Dr Diet, Dr Quiet and Dr Merryman.” These doctors were to be highlighted in the grid and they could be found at (column, row, direction) c5 r4 SE, c5 r6 SE and c5 r13 NE.

I enjoyed this very much as it was the first EV I’ve finished. Caught on to the doctor theme early on but didn’t know ‘crux medicorum’ so that was last in following a bit of head scratching to think of some latin. 34ac was probably my favourite clue of the piece. Has anyone ever won this puzzle? I suspect they get loads of entries.
