Derby S & B – crosswords

At last Saturday’s S & B meeting in Derby’s Waterfall, four non-pro setters and one very-pro setter each made a contribution by bringing along a crossword. Unfortunately, John Henderson (this time disguised as Elgar) couldn’t make it in person as Arsenal was on the brink of something great but his puzzle was very much appreciated. It is blogged on Big Dave’s site: Elgar @ Derby. Meanwhile, we (Eileen and I) thought it might be a good idea to blog the puzzles of Windsurfer, Gervase, Skipjack and Dalibor at Fifteensquared. And so it happened, see the posts immediately below this one (or in the category: Sundry Puzzles). Explanations are based on the compilers’ own parsings. Any comments will be warmly welcomed.

  1. Sil, you are a star – what a labour of love! Many, many thanks for all your hard work – but I’m sure you enjoyed it.

I’ve always thought it was a pity that these puzzles didn’t get a wider airing and always wondered if the setters got much feedback for their efforts.

It’s great how each of the setters has made a theme out of the day, each in his own way, and I’m very impressed at the talent they show. Any one of these puzzles would be worthy of a place among those that we do daily.

I’m not going to comment on the puzzles individually – I’ve already given fairly detailed feedback to a couple of the setters – but I do want to say how much I enjoyed them all and am full of admiration. Huge thanks to you all.

I hope that those who haven’t tried the puzzles / left them behind / didn’t manage to get to Derby will give them a go – you’ve got a Bank Holiday! [I don’t think there will be too many ‘too easy’ complaints. 😉 ]

  2. Thanks Sil, much appreciated by all the setters, and hopefully by some solvers too.

The Derby meeting was a blast!

  3. Thanks, Sil, for taking the time to post my puzzle on fifteensquared – a great honour – and for writing up the blog!

    Skipjack
