Financial Times 15,059 – Dante

Monday Prize Crossword / Oct 12, 2015

Dante on a Monday. Nothing new under the sun. That said, there weren’t that many cryptic definitions this time.

For me, it was a crossword of two halves.
A quick solve of the right-hand side but meeting some difficulties in the West.
Looking back at it, I cannot see why that part of the puzzle should have troubled me the way it did.

  1. Re 14a: Mount’s Bay is a large bay on the Channel coast of Cornwall.

  2. ernie

1d I wasn’t happy with ‘for’ as an anagrind.

  3. Hamish

    Thanks Sil and Dante.

Usual fare for the FT Monday prize made slightly harder by a grid ‘of four halves’.

As Pete points out, MOUNTS BAY is the bay in Cornwall in which St Michael’s Mount sits.

Otherwise, STAYER, BLONDE, and CUP all elicited an ‘is that it?’

But Dante is what he is, and we love him for it. Bless!

    Thanks Dante and Sil

This was back to the mundane following the very entertaining puzzle that he presented a fortnight ago. All of the cryptic definitions were barely such today, which was a pity.

Solved it in two halves – top and bottom, one each in two short sittings. Finished in the SW with IN TIME, THEORIES and TINIER th last few in.

  5. Bamberger

14a could not have been anything else but while I could see the horses, I couldn’t see the Bay bit at all so thanks to the Contributors for clearing up.
