My Thanks

By now, apart from a few outlying islands, the whole globe will have seen in the New Year (or, as in my case, will have been asleep when it arrived). It is therefore an appropriate time for me to extend my thanks to the Fifteensquared team for the time and effort they have expended during the last twelve months when preparing the blogs and answering any subsequent queries.

As in the past, I would also like to thank the setters, and their editors, for all the entertainment they have provided for us throughout the year. I, for one, would be lost without my daily fix of crucverbal challenges and I’m sure many other aficionados feel the same way.

My thanks also go to all those who have added their comments to the blogs, or even just lurked and read them. I am pleased that, in the main, this site has remained a pleasant, polite and civilised forum in which to exchange views and I hope this will continue during the next twelve months.

Finally, I would like to wish you all a very happy, and puzzling, New Year.

Geoff

A very “Happy New Year” greeting from me in Malaysia.

Thanks from me to Gaufrid for his management of this site, and to all the bloggers for their hard work.

I second all your sentiments, Gaufrid. Many thanks too for all your hard work throughout the year.

Best wishes to all from Leeds, Yorkshire!

  4. Many thanks Gaufrid for maintaining such an excellent site.

    I echo your comments.

Hear, hear! Fifteensquared is a rare example of a stimulating, generally civilised online forum. Long may it continue. Thanks for your efforts, Gaufrid. I know from editing some other sites just what a difficult job it can be to keep things ticking along technically and content-wise whilst preventing some of the contributors from wrecking the joint and strangling each other. Thanks again.

  6. Tyro

    Many thanks from me.

“A rare example of a stimulating, generally civilised online forum” – and one where contributors know how to spell! Thanks for keeping us all in order, Gaufrid, and a Happy New Year to one and all!

Many thanks from me to the site team, all the contributors, and all the other compilers for another great year.

    Cheers

Thanks for all your hard work to Gaufrid and all the other bloggers and setters – everything that keeps this wonderful resource going is much appreciated.

    Happy New Year all

I’m a lurker for the most part — in a late timezone so by the time I get here everything useful has been said — but I greatly enjoy reading the comments and want to add my thanks to everyone who participates. Happy New Year!

  11. Alan Browne

And many thanks to you too. I am a great fan of this site and of the whole community of setters, bloggers and contributors alike.

I am hoping 2016 will be my third full year of solving Guardian crosswords, reading the blogs and making my own contributions from time to time.

    Happy New Year

  12. Leon.W

I add my thanks, too. My discovery of this website has made solving much more fun, and has opened my eyes to the previouly unknown world of cruciverbalism. When I don’t complete, which is often, it’s great to have the blogs and the excellent commentaries from so many regular voices.
    Happy new year to all.

  13. jennyk

Many thanks to you and the team from me too. Have a good 2016!

  14. Kruger

Thanks from me too Gaufrid – you do a super job. And, of course, to the bloggers who must sometimes despair at their task but have the fortitude to see it out.

Although some of the comments on 15^2 are a bit underhand (or at least, to me, illogical) most are really enlightening, constructive and useful to both setters and solvers – I’m sure in equal measure.

I know that I and (from conversations with them) my fellow setters do take note of the posts on this site and always try to please the majority of solvers most of the time – but obviously not with 100% success!

  15. Thanks to all involved at 225, especially Gaufrid for keeping it all together.

  16. ACD

Thanks to Gaufrid, the setters, the bloggers, and the commenters. For me this site has been a wonderful educational experience that has enhanced the fun of solving puzzles.

    Wishing all Happy New year.
May 2016 bring you and your family Peace, love, harmony, happiness and prosperity.
Looking forward to another great year of cracking puzzle fest.
This has stood in good stead.

Happy New Year. This is one of very few blogs I have stayed with. Testament to the team and their good work.

  20. Here’s to another year under Gaufrid’s sterling stewardship!

  21. Alphalpha

I’m a 2015 initiate and glad of the opportunity to offer thanks in all directions. Have to admit to being a Crosaire “refugee” and regularly need 225 to help translate towards Hiberno-English.

But thanks particularly it seems to Gaufrid. I hope it brings you pleasure; certainly does me.

  22. Kathryn's Dad

Indeed, it’s been a good year on Fifteensquared. ‘Community’ is the right word to use: a group of people who like their daily fix and enjoy each other’s company discussing the ins and outs of the puzzles each day.

Special thanks to Gaufrid for looking after the site and keeping us in order. We’ll all need to put in another tenner soon to pay for the hosting costs, won’t we?

  23. Great site with helpful bloggers and nice sense of community. Well done to Gaufrid for holding it all together and best wishes to all for 2016.

  24. Gaufrid

    Hi K’s D @22
“We’ll all need to put in another tenner soon to pay for the hosting costs, won’t we?”

Not for another 11 months, if my memory/calculation is correct, and even then it is more likely to be a fiver if the previous appeal response is repeated. As reported at the time, and subsequently, the last appeal raised enough funds for four years hosting when I was only seeking one.

  25. Wil Ransome

    Sterling stewardship exactly.

  26. Turbolegs

Wish everybody who reads this a superb, unparalleled and wholly fulfilling trip around the sun.

Special thanks to Geoff Moss / Gaufrid / Patron Saint of all things Clued and Unclued – Its an absolute joy to be a part of this bunch. I hope that this year, I will make the long arduous danger-filled hitchhike from Singapore to the UK for one of the many Betters/Sloggers meetings.

    Cheers
    TL / Mahesh

  27. MikeC

My thanks also to Gaufrid and all who make this such a splendid site. Happy New Year, everyone.

  28. muffin

My thanks too to Gaufrid and all the bloggers – great job you all do!

  29. Wishing you all Happy New Year, and good solving/setting/blogging in 2016.

My thanks, too, to Gaufrid for his excellent work.

  30. Many thanks Gaufrid for all your excellent work in maintaining this site and to all the bloggers for their sterling work.

    Best wishes,

    Qaos

  31. MikeS

Hip hip for 225 and to those whose comments help so much.

  32. Happy New Year wishes to everyone who plays a part in keeping Fifteensquared at the forefront of crossword blogging and commenting.

Thanks especially to Gaufrid for keeping everything running so smoothly.

It would be wonderful to see more lurkers taking the next step to commenting in 2016.

  33. cholecyst

Thanks Geoff for all your hard work – much appreciated. May I echo duncanshiell’s comments above – if you visit, don’t be too shy too contribute. The usual suspects are (mostly) very friendly.

  34. Sil van den Hoek

Many thanks Geoff for doing a marvellous job, year in year out.
Fifteensquared is a wonderful site – long may it continue!

  35. Togo

Thank you Gaufrid for your generosity and hard work holding all this together, to the bloggers for their always helpful efforts and of course to ‘our’ setters, who provide me with endless pleasure, challenge and respite. Best wishes to them and to the community of lurkers and posters.

    John

  36. PaulinOz

Mainly a lurker but very thankful for this site. The reasons for many unfinished grids have been explained and often with wry humour to boot. My thanks go to both Geoff and the bloggers who all do a magnificent job. A great 2016 to all including my fellow lurkers.

  37. Alison

This site is excellent. I’m glad I discovered it as it has improved my solving no end. Thank you to everyone involved.

  38. AdamH

HNY to everybody involved in F2! I don’t contribute other than very occasionally, but this site is irreplaceable and I’m here every day — always FOR help rather than TO help I’m ashamed to say.
    Favourites: Eileen and SvdH.
Hopes: HH got a bag of tolerance for Chrimbo.
Aspirations: To develop parsong skills like those of the 225 bloggers.

    Thank you all

    A

  39. AdamH

Parsing, not parsing, but you’ll have guessed that

  40. AdamH

    Bloody auto-correct

  41. WordPlodder

I think I’ll probably be tail-end Charlie, but I’d like to say something, even if it is a bit late. A very big thanks to Gaufrid for keeping such an enjoyable site humming along so nicely, and to all the bloggers who contribute their time and knowledge so generously.

Looking forward to plenty of enjoyable solving, with the inevitable bit of frustration along the way, for the remaining 361 days of 2016.

  42. h.eckler

Many thanks, Gaufrid, for this wonderful site.

    Best Wishes

  43. Gaufrid,

Thank you so much for this wonderful site. Feedback is invaluable from all solvers, and I hope I learn at least a little from you all.

Have a super year, and many thanks to everyone at Fifteensquared.

    With love and appreciation,

    John (Paul)

  44. Jan

Late to the party, as usual, but if I’m to arrive on the coat-tails of a setter … I’m following Paul!

I say, ‘Hear, hear’, to all the previous posts.

I appreciate this site so much and thank Gaufrid and all the bloggers who enhance my enjoyment of my favourite pastime. I don’t post very often but that is only because I am usually days behind in my solving.

  45. Charles Barnwell

Well I probably am tail end Charlie (although I prefer Charles). Thank you Gaufrid. You do a fantastic job here. Your handling of the HH situation has been intelligent, sympathetic and diligent. Have a great year.

  46. Barrie, Remuera

Greetings, best wishes and thanks too from one of the New Zealand ‘chapter’ who generally tag along to the Everyman blogs a few weeks after they come out in the Guardian.

    This is a wonderful forum.
