Sloggers and Betters Event – Derby – May 21st 2016.

A message from Eileen and Peter (Kathryn’s Dad).

Eileen and I have arranged a 2016 Derby Sloggers and Betters event in Derby for Saturday May 21st.

This year it will be held at The Brunswick Inn, which is around 200 metres from Derby station.  It has an excellent reputation for real ales, many of which  are brewed on the premises.  We have booked the upstairs function room, which can seat around 40.  Those who have attended previous Derby events will know the pub, since we have often gone there after having lunch at The Waterfall.

We plan to have a buffet, which will be £10 and will include vegetarian options.  Other dietary requirements can be accommodated.

For now, please put the date in your diary and let us know below if you’d like to attend.  Nearer the time, we will sort out the details and finalise numbers.

If you need to know anything more, please contact Peter on pwharvey {at} msn {dot} com.  Looking forward to seeing faces old and new in May.

Eileen and Peter

PS We may have told some of you privately that this was going to happen on May 14th, but it turns out that the venue is not available for that date, so please put May 21st in your diary if you’d like to come.

  1. As on the previous four occasions, I totally disclaim any credit for organising Derby Days: I simply ‘encourage’ Peter. 😉

  2. Kath and I will be in the UK at that time so it’s in the diary already. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

  3. Eileen and I don’t do ticking off, Sil – as you know. Just a warm welcome. Pleased that you can make it.

  4. I was looking at train times for someone at work and so thought I’d just look at how accessible Derby was from home. The train times work but the cost (even with what the nice man at the station calls my ‘young lady’s card’ is more than my ‘entertainment’ budget will stand.

Hope you all have a lovely day.

  5. Hooray! Thank you Peter for organising and Eileen for ‘encouraging’ (nagging?) him. 🙂

I’ve just got to remember to book my train ticket when the fares are cheapest.

Crypticsue, I don’t know where you live but tickets booked online are very much cheaper if you know when to book. I’m just going to check.

  6. Cheaper tickets come online 12 weeks in advance of the journey date and it can be cheaper to book tickets for parts of the journey even though you stay on the same train.

I can do Oxford to Birmingham then Birmingham to Derby cheaper than Oxford to Derby! It’s the same train.

  7. Jenny and I have it in our diaries. Looking forward to the first of these events we have attended.

  8. Wild horses couldn’t keep me away. Disaster permitting, I’ll be there – just possibly with Mr Kitty if he can make it over then. Many thanks for arranging it.

  9. Booked my train tickets now.
    Not even that bad.

The Brunswick is a good place.
So, I’m looking forward to be there (as always).
I might bring a (slightly unusual) Dalibor puzzle to add to the fun.
[or to subtract from, of course 🙂 ]

  10. I would have come to this because Derby isn’t far from home. However, I’ll be out of the country. Have a great time, everyone!
