    Thanks Hectence and scchua
    A very good crossword, but I didn’t find it particularly easy – as is frequently the case, it took me about twice as long as the Rufus in the paper. I think the cleverly hidden PILATES was my favourite.

    I enjoyed this. I think there are a few clues which are on the tricky side for a Quiptic, particularly TRAWLER (the need to separate “river” and “boat”) and GROCERIES, but those clues are fair. My favourite was probably CAFETIERE.

    Thanks, Hectence and scchua.

  3. Thanks Hectence and scchua;

    I did not get off to a good start having entered TRAMPER (a tramp steamer) at 1d, TR AMP (amplifier) E R, however, 12a had to be CLUTCH. Some lovely surfaces, especially GROCERIES – sadly, the Queen is now not replacing her Corgis for fear of tripping over them.

  4. Thanks Hectence & scchua.

    I, too, thought that this was more difficult than today’s Cryptic. I suppose people have to be introduced to lift-and-separate clues (such as that for TRAWLER) but it does seem a bit tough for absolute beginners.

    Cookie @3, I thought you were joking about the Queen’s corgis!

  5. Robi @4, apparently not, another reason is that the Queen does not want to leave any on her corgis behind her when she goes.
