I particularly enjoyed the clue for RAISE CAIN and the word STANCHION is an unusual one.
Thanks for Everyman and Flashling.
Paul
Thank you Everyman and flashling.
I enjoyed this, but entered CREAM at first at 4d, instead of CREME, which led to “something MACGUFFIN” at 12a, the idea that BRIEF = lawyer did not come to my mind – all sorted out in the end.
The clue for HYBRID was my favourite, followed by that for STANCHION.
I thought this was a little trickier than sometimes, but as enjoyable as usual. Among other very nice surfaces, I particularly liked OUTSIDER, VICARAGE, ALL IN and COYPU.
Thanks, Everyman and flashling.
On the other hand I found this easier than the past couple of weeks. Perhaps I was just a little more awake than usual. 🙂 LOI 4d, which was new to me.
This was enjoyable indeed..
Thanks flashling, I came unstuck on BARBADOS but can now add ‘os’ to my ever growing list of sailor abbreviations along with tar, ab, salt, rn … and so on!
A lot easier than last week’s imho.
Brief = lawyer was new to me, thought a brief was what you gave him.
Stanchion I knew from my yachting encounters, they hold the wire thingies which help prevent premature disembarkation.
Some rewarding unpicks here, unusually I bothered to parse the lot, must have been less convoluted than some of late.
Thanks Flashling and EM.
Got off to a quick start for a change this week, but got stuck at the lower left. I put accurate for 1 ac instead of accuracy so couldn’t get 4 d till that was sorted, and then I thought it was Crepe something. Haven’t heard of that dessert but Cream Caramels are sweets.
All in all I enjoyed it this week. Much more at my level.
Thought for a while I was going to break the world speed record (in my house anyway) with this one, but then I got stuck on stanchion – never heard of it. Probably serves me right for being a landlubber in the City of Sails. Enjoyed it though. Thanks to all.
Lower left corner was the hardest for me too, took ages to finally get any of it…and had never heard of a coypu but I suppose that will come in use one day. good way to spend a wet cold saturday…
Finished this one sitting by a fireside while it rains outside. Quite enjoyable. Last one in was 22a dampen.
Quite liked 19a Bury the hatchet, 16d Barbados, & 20d Tweak. Knew 15d Stanchion from construction work. Stanchions hold up hand rails.
