Name: Matthew Livermore. Age 33. I've been doing cryptics for about 5 years, but have only been obsessive about them since last year when I won the Guardian Prize Crossword - an Araucaria alphabetical puzzle - and got an HC for my first attempt at an Azed clue-writing competition. Have had some success with advanced crosswords; I belong to the Crossword Club and attempt the Listener most weeks - they usually remain unfinished though! I'm a teacher and share the cryptic bug with some of my fellow staff, we do the Telegraph cryptic daily and I do the Guardian and sometimes Independent every day. I am definitely not one of the fast solvers like some here, but perseverance usually gets me there!

August 12, 2008 at 12:15 pm by golgonooza

A few parties in this one, as well as the great Stevie Wonder who wrote the above song. Some penny-dropping moments for me in this one, maybe my brain’s not switched on properly … Read more >>

If it’s Monday, it must be a Rufus day! And thank the Lord for that! I always enjoy Rufus – his puzzles are often easier to solve but never boring. This one has … Read more >>

Guardian 24,456/Orlando

This was fairly straightforward and enjoyable; I started off racing through it until a few very clever clues and unfamiliar phrases slowed me down. A few of the clues made me smile – … Read more >>

Guardian 24,449, Brendan – A Shaw Thing

October 26, 2008 at 6:25 pmJuly 24, 2008 at 11:34 am by golgonooza

A great themed puzzle from Brendan for my first blog – based around George Bernard Shaw and My Fair Lady. I really enjoyed doing this but had recourse to wikipedia for some of … Read more >>
