Hihoba

Hihoba is a combination of the names of three retired men who spend (waste?) more time than they should solving crosswords. We hope that it is helping us to fight off incipient Alzheimers. We operate separately, and then combine resources if (usually when) we get stuck. It’s all done by email now, but I have records to show that we’ve been doing the Inquisitor and its predecessor the Weekend Crossword back into the days when you had to ring people up and actually talk to them!

Inquisitor 1438: Something Fishy by Phi

May 25, 2016 at 5:02 pmMay 25, 2016 at 12:01 am by Hihoba

From Nimrod’s explanation about IQ tactics, I was expecting something a bit easier this week, but I found the combination of lack of word length and misprints pretty difficult. The rubric told us: … Read more >>

Inquisitor 1434: Connect Four by Lato

April 27, 2016 at 12:01 am by Hihoba

I found this pretty taxing! (I originally used the word “challenging” but Duncan used it in his intro last week, and it is becoming overused, though apt.) The rubric read: Extra/missing single letters … Read more >>

April 2, 2016 at 10:38 amMarch 30, 2016 at 12:01 am by Hihoba

I noted that the “postamble” (like a preamble but at the end) says that the solution and winners will be published in two weeks. But where? The news of the reprieve of the … Read more >>

Inquisitor 1414: Breakthrough by Schadenfreude

December 9, 2015 at 12:01 am by Hihoba

Another Schadenfreude offering this week. Usually quite difficult and this was no exception, not helped by slightly misleading (to me, Hi, anyway) rubric, which read: After filling the grid, solvers must obey the … Read more >>

November 11, 2015 at 12:01 am by Hihoba

Possibly the best Inquisitor puzzle ever? Certainly one of my favourites! Thanks to Charybdis for hours of fun. Difficulty level was just right for me, and the denouement, just stunning! It made me … Read more >>

Shark’s last offering in the series was number 1370, yielding a picture of a hand, which I much enjoyed, so I had high hopes for this one. I remember that we found the clues … Read more >>
