Those of you who have a subscription to The Guardian may have noticed that there were, on Saturday and before, quite a few letters from readers about the level of the newspaper’s cryptic crosswords. As … Read more >>
Some of you may remember that a few years ago we were asked to participate in a survey regarding cryptic crosswords. A few may even have attended the subsequent trials held at Buckingham University. Though some preliminary feedback was available in 2011, it is not until now that the first results have been published. Below is a message from the research team.

Our Derby S&B is only a few weeks away, on Saturday 21st May. It will be at The Brunswick Inn, which is a very short distance from Derby station. Come out of the station at the main exit, cross the road and bear right. In a couple of hundred metres, you’ll find the pub on your left.

Why this didn’t occur to me before I have no idea, but Macclesfield has a perfect S&B venue in the Snow Goose. It’s a cosy alpine themed café bar on 3 levels. On Friday evening there will be musical entertainment in the form of LeLounge, a chilled out duo featuring Looby & Dave, friends from the covers band I used to be in.
