Preamble: Wordplay in 45 clues leads to the answer plus an extra letter, not entered in the grid. In clue order, extra letters give two instructions. Eighteen artists (three using given names as well as surnames), are represented in the exhibition. Each artist’s piece is square or rectangular and marked in its top right corner by ‘*’ (or ‘A’ for a key piece). The solver must frame all pieces. The website WikiArt.org is recommended.

Filbert gets our new year of Sunday puzzles going
A nice crossword from Everyman. The clues are neat, often imaginative, and not tortuous, as they have sometimes been.
Several Azed bloggers, myself included, have commented that the appearance of a Playfair puzzle is a scary prospect, as it involved both cold-solving the italicised clues, and deducing the codeword from the answers and the crossing letters.
Kite sets the last Genius challenge of 2024.

Related features are omitted from wordplay in half the clues. Wordplay in other clues indicates an extra letter in each. The additional letters can be arranged to identify the related features.
