  1. Missed out on WASTES and ASBESTOS, neither of which were unreasonable, but which were beyond me today. I found the parsing of PARLANCE quite tricky (expecting a homophone with ‘Talk’) and it took a while for the penny to drop for SCREENED, one of those nice ‘auto-antonyms’, whatever their proper name is. DRY RUN was my favourite.

    Found this a little bit trickier than normal for some reason from Dante – maybe to do with the four mini puzzles that come from this grid. Slowest to get was the SW corner where I couldn’t work out whether it would be RAW or WAR in at 25a and had to wait till my penultimate entry with WASTES went in to opt for the latter.

    Struggled to validate SCATTY for wild for a while … and even then it wasn’t a direct synonym.

    Anyway was able to get it all done in reasonable time.
