Postmark submitted two puzzles for the recent S&B in Nottingham. This was the first one we solved.
The puzzle and Postmark’s parsings can be found here.
The first thing to say is that the clues have smooth surfaces which we always like. It didn’t take us too long to complete over lunch – not a criticism – actually the opposite as we have been fairly busy just recently.
With a few crossing letters we guessed Half Nelson for the wrestling hold but took a while to see the ‘reverse cryptic’ – very nifty.
There were quite a few misdirections which was good but we have to admit that our favourite clue was 27ac. Short and sweet or should we say, ‘bitter’. It raised a smile which is always an added bonus when solving a crossword puzzle.
Thanks Postmark for bringing the puzzles to Nottingham and introducing us to the Mycrossword site.
I could not attend the event, but that didn’t stop me from trying this puzzle – which I believe is my second from this setter.
I tried it without using my trusty references (which I use only for weekend puzzles and the monthly Genius), and I was really pleased to have solved everything and, except for RUST, understood everything. (I got RUST from ‘trusty’ but didn’t know orange = rust.)
Thanks PostMark.
Thanks for the blog and the link, very consistent high-quality clues, difficult to isolate favourites , perhaps RESHUFFLE is just the winner. I did look long and hard for a theme but it seems there is not one this time .
I wondered about WAG being singular for DOWAGER but I think it is now an accepted back formation from WAGS .
For SKIS it is hard to believe but Kelvin=K is technically wrong, not the setter’s fault , just stupid SI rules.
