  1. Thank you Jed, some of these defeated me, particularly Sirimave BANDARANAIKE who I learn was the world’s first female head of government. Thanks to Gozo too for the modern studies lesson.

Mainly on the strength of liking Gozo puzzles a lot and reading about those interesting busses (which have apparently now gone) I have just booked a family holiday on the island of Gozo in October. I hope this was a wise thing to do.

  2. Thanks Jed – good to see Mrs Bandaranaike (as I seem to remember she was always known) making it into a crossword. Quite easy by Gozo’s standards, I thought, but a remarkable feat to get all those names – all pretty well known, with the possible exception of Mrs B – into the acrosses. I think [Enoch] POWELL is the only one that isn’t/wasn’t a head of state and/or government, though there were rumours at one time that Colin Powell might stand for US President.

  3. Another enjoyable puzzle from Gozo.
    I thought the clue for 15D was a gem (a l’abandon).
Thank you to Jed for parsing 14A (Ban dar(k)ana ike)
